Specially developed by Sony, the new V1 processor built into the WF-1000XM4 earbuds takes the Noise Canceling performance of the acclaimed QN1e chip even further. This improved performance and Bluetooth® "System on Chip" technology provide the highest level of noise cancellation in the industry, while consuming less battery power.
Details that improve Noise Canceling performance
To achieve this level of cancellation, the Sony WF-1000XM4 also rely on two noise-detecting microphones , one for feed-ahead and one for feedback, which picks up more ambient sounds to filter them out. In addition, the 6mm driver unit improves Noise Cancellation by generating a highly accurate canceling signal for low frequencies, while the new earplugs are made from a unique polyurethane foam material. Soft and resilient, the material maximizes the surface contact area between the plug and the ear canal, eliminating gaps to isolate sound and reduce noise. It also improves adhesion to the ear canal for a more stable fit , making the WF-1000XM4 earbuds comfortable to wear.

Meanwhile, the built-in V1 processor improves sound, reduces distortion, and enables LDAC and DSEE Extreme codec processing. LDAC transmits three times more data (maximum transfer rate of 990 kbps) than conventional Bluetooth®, allowing you to enjoy high-resolution content.
And with Edge-AI (artificial intelligence), DSEE Extreme™ (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) enhances compressed digital music files in real time. By dynamically recognizing instruments, genres and individual elements of each song, such as vocals or interludes, DSEE Extreme restores frequencies lost in compression and creates a more complete listening experience.

When you talk to someone, Speak-to-Chat automatically pauses the music and lets the ambient sound pass so you can talk - useful if you have your hands full -. When you stop talking, the music starts again. Speak-to-Chat recognizes and reacts to your voice by combining 4 microphones and sensors with advanced audio signal processing.
Adaptive Sound Control, on the other hand, is an intelligent feature that senses where you are and what you are doing to create the ideal listening experience based on ambient sound. The Sony WF-1000XM4 supports Google's new and useful feature: Fast Pair . With one touch, the WF-1000XM4 enables effortless Bluetooth® pairing with your Android devices . You can easily locate where you left your phones by making them ring or checking their last recorded location in the app. You'll even get a notification when your battery is low.
Likewise, Swift Pair makes it easy to pair the WF-1000XM4 headphones with a laptop, desktop PC or Windows 10 tablet. Pairing instructions will appear on pop-up Windows 10 devices nearby when pairing mode is selected.

Furthermore, the Sony WF-1000XM4 box has Qi technology for simple wireless charging . You can use a Qi smartphone with battery sharing function or a Qi wireless charger to charge your phones.

Intuitive touch controls
The Sony WF-1000XM4 features intuitive touch control setup: tap the left phone to switch from Noise Canceling mode to Ambient Sound mode, tap once for Quick Attention, or double tap the right phone to switch between music. You can assign their functions to each headset using the Headphones Connect application. In addition, via the Sony | Headphones Connect, ambient sound control allows you to adjust the volume of ambient sound and you have the option to hear only voices. Meanwhile, the equalizer lets you customize the sound levels and adjust them to your music.
For the sake of it, the Sony WF-1000XM4 equip a proximity sensor , so that the music stops automatically when you quit. Put the earphones back on and the music will resume.
Smaller design with IPX4 water resistance
Sony has redesigned the internal structure of the WF-1000XM4 earbuds to make them 10% smaller than the previous generation, without sacrificing sound quality or battery life. At just 7.3g, they're light enough to wear all day. Plus, the charging case is 40% smaller, but still provides 16 hours of charge time anywhere. And with an IPX4 waterproof rating , even splashes or sweat won't stop these phones.
